Been Traveling with a New Friend

Recently, my responsibilities have called on me to travel with an elder in our church and new friend. We’ve been assigned a task and it necessitates that we travel. Last week we went on a 4.5 hour (one way) road trip and were in meetings for about 8 hours that day. So, I have had what some might call an overexposure to dialog that day. Lots of talking! And not just the light stuff either!

This week we were commissioned to travel overnight, flying together, driving, staying overnight at a fellow minister’s home. Another two days of conversational heavy-lifting.

During both trips, we found a really camaraderie with one another. We had shared interested, shared desires, shared sins, shared hurts (click here for more thoughts from my good friend Keith). It was material not for conversation at the local coffee shop. The privacy and duration of the road trips allowed for us to engage at a whole new level. It was not burdensome material, really, but conversations about the big things in life. Community, church, family, sin, hopes, our children, our marriages and so much more.

Those two trips were special, encouraging times for me, and I am grateful.
